Crops and Livestock Production

In 2007, Smith County had approximately 158,000 acres of wheat seeded while there was 61,000 acres of milo seeded, 17,000 acres of corn and 21,000 acres of soybeans.  With this significant amount of crop acreage, the producer needs to be current on profitable practices as well as high producing varieties.

Animal agriculture makes up approximately 20% of Smith County total farm income.

The importance of production agriculture and animal agriculture are magnified if the impact of related industries are considered, such as machinery and equipment manufacturing and servicing and feed production.
